That little black square, see it? Center of the photo. On top of the banquette? It's not moving, I promise. Not even alive. It is a tiny hair clip, left behind by a customer at City Bakery, and a hunch tells me it was found and placed in that spot by another customer. It has been there since Saturday at around 3pm. Though I talk to the staff ad nauseum about observing the store [better], this is one of those fascinating episodes: no matter the dozen or so pairs of eyes that are working six feet away, that hair clip might just sit on that perch until roughly Christmas time. Unless someone on staff is reading this, or until I just can't take it anymore.
Such is retail.
