There are favorite customers, and then favorites among the favorites. Barry Benepe is in that second category, and has been since the start of City Bakery. Besides being the nicest guy in the world, Barry's resume includes being the co-founder of Greenmarket, the epicenter of our food world since 1990. Greenmarket transformed this neighborhood and remains it's heart and soul. The market changed the way the NYC food industry thinks and works, and it changed the food culture for a generation of New Yorkers. Whenever Barry is in the bakery [pictured at right, this morning], I always think of how the people all around him don't know how fabulously he's enriched our lives.
