THANKSGIVING 2013

If Derek Jeter of the Yankees is Mr. October, then Hector Gonzaga of City Bakery
is Mr. November. Twenty-two years since he began working here, it's impossible
for me to imagine Thanksgiving without him.

Has anyone in a New York City kitchen over the last decade made more
Thanksgiving pies, with their own hands, for more New Yorkers, than Hector Gonzaga?
Not likely.

 In a day and age when any baker in Brooklyn who touches pie dough is heralded
as the next Gina Lollabrigida of the pie world …

I'm especially thankful today for the incomparable and indefatigable Mr. Gonzaga.
He is New York, itself.
